The Head Doctor, Jessica Holter’s breakout poem, was recorded in 1999 at Lev Berlak’s Oakland studio, The Grill, just in time for her television debut on HBO’s Real Sex in 2000. Long before it became a cultural touchstone, the poem was played from car stereos in parking lots to draw crowds into her early shows — a grassroots hustle that helped launch The Punany Poets into national visibility.
Today, this iconic piece is reborn in Skin Flute, a sensual, theatrical reinterpretation performed by AI recording artist Scarlett Falls.
