Players & Pearls at Club Surrender

Players & Pearls are everywhere at Club Surrender this Valentine's Day as Jessica Holter turns the page of her theatrical stage to Black noir, in a sensually choreographed whodunit with Eboni Amore, TikTok's That Girl Ebony. A living doll, sexy and smart, she joins a cast of Punany's finest Pearls and a curious audience of sleuths on the South Side of #Chicago in a mysterious and musical tale of foul play. Has anybody seen Ruby? Everyone in the audience looks suspicious. Listen to samples from our soundtrack.

Sonic Legacy & Collaborators

Founded in 1995 by Jessica Holter, The Punany Poets emerged as a radical response to the AIDS crisis and a celebration of Black love, intimacy, and truth-telling. The group’s audio catalog blends spoken word, R&B, hip-hop, and theatrical scoring—often performed live and captured in studio sessions.

Enjoy music from our HIP Archives, and let us know if you would like to cover a song or if you need a license.

Introducing Custom Songs for Special  Occasions

Music has the power to capture emotions in ways words alone cannot. That’s why I’m excited to share a new offering for my website members: custom songs created just for you and your loved ones.

Whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary, or simply a “just because” moment, you can now turn your personal stories and sentiments into a one‑of‑a‑kind song.

How It Works

  • You provide the inspiration. Send me the lyrics you’ve written, or simply share the feelings, memories, or message you want to convey.

  • Choose the vibe. Let me know the genre (R&B, hip‑hop, gospel, spoken word, pop, etc.) and the tempo you imagine — upbeat, slow and soulful, or anything in between.

  • I create the song. Using your words and ideas, I’ll craft a custom piece of music that reflects your story and emotion.

Why It’s Special

  • 🎂 Birthdays: Celebrate someone’s life with a song that’s all about them.

  • 💍 Anniversaries: Capture the journey of love in a melody that lasts forever.

  • 🌟 Just Because: Surprise a friend or family member with a song that says what you feel.

Each song is unique, personal, and designed to be a keepsake — something you can revisit again and again, like a musical time capsule.

🎛️ Producers & Studios

  • Jessica Holter, Executive Producer, Sonwriter, adapting poems to music using AI

  • Lev Berlak: Bay Area producer known for his work with Too $hort and E-40, Berlak helped shape the early sonic identity of The Punany Poets with gritty, emotionally resonant beats.

  • The Grill Studios: A creative hub where multiple Punany tracks were recorded, mixed, and mastered—serving as a sonic sanctuary for Holter’s poetic vision.

  • D’Wayne Wiggins (Tony! Toni! Toné!): A longtime friend and collaborator, Wiggins produced the original Punany: The Hip Hop Psalms soundtrack and later tracks like Unpimpable, transforming Holter’s poetry into soul-infused musical compositions.

  • Femi Andrades: A classically trained bassist and composer, Andrades contributed layered instrumentation and arrangements that elevated the theatricality of Punany’s live shows.

  • Keno Mapp (Moore-Mapp Records): Known for blending Caribbean rhythms with urban soul, Mapp brought a global texture to select Punany productions, expanding their reach and resonance.

Jessica Holter — author, artist, and founder of The Punany Poets — masterfully fuses passion, music, and poetry to craft immersive romantic experiences for couples with her new platform, Coffy Pop. Now that her HIP Team has planted roots in Chicago, Ghetto Girl Blue continues her commitment to community service, uplifting spirits, and rekindling connections through romantic events, immersive dinner theater, comedy, and game shows that celebrate life with live music, theater, and dance.
